Gay Marriage

Folks, I'm not anti-gay, homophobic, or anything else.
As to this issue, I'm anti two things.
One: calling it marriage. Marriage is a sacred institution that's been around for thousands of years. No need to play.
Two: this.

Who says there's no slippery slope?

1- Call it whatever you want, as long as it's consistent and fair, no "separate but equal." Maybe the government should get out of the marriage business altogether, and only certify "Civil Unions", and leave the word Marriage to religions. That would be perfectly fair. Civil marriage has few pratical similarities to religious marriage anyway.

2- Those crazy Dutch. Whatever. Look, if government has any role in marriage, and I think it does, it is to promote family stability & monogamy, largely for the purpose of raising stable and productive children. Same sex marriage clearly is a step towards this, in my view. This other thing? Not so much.

Yeah, part two I agree with EXCEPT for the same-sex marriage bit. dave, I think the data shows that kids need two parents of different genders. Is it the only way? No. Is it the best way? Probably.

While that may initially seem intuitive, most of the research I've seen doesn't seem to show that at all.

    Two things to look at:

The APA has an executive summary on the topic, written in 1995.

This page opposing the Florida gay adoption ban is also interesting (clearly POV, but it's well-written and it cites its sources).
